Oral Contraceptives for Emergency Contraception Purposes

Approved by the Inter-Provincial Regualtory Committee of NAPRA, April 1999

With respect to the dispensing of oral contraceptive tablets for emergency contraception, the pharmacist must:

  1. Only dispense the number of tablets prescribed

  2. Provide appropriate information to the patient including advice on prophylactic anti-emetic treatment.

Manufacturers' patient package inserts are not considered appropriate for the indication of emergency contraception.
